The city of Chattanooga has announced its decision to reconfigure Frazier Avenue, opting for a modified version of Option B that includes a new protected multimodal lane for the safety of the pedestrians. This choice was influenced by strong public support showing a clear preference for a protected lane that accommodates pedestrians, cyclists, and wheelchair users.
In addition to this modification, a new mid-block crosswalk will be installed at the CARTA parking garage on 345 Frazier Avenue. Implementation is set to begin anytime aiming to improve safety and accessibility for all road users.
Mayor Tim Kelly emphasized the inclusivity and benefits of the new lane, stating that it will allow everyone who isn’t in a car to enjoy the area safely. He expressed his appreciation to the community and Councilwoman Jenny Hill for their commitment and participation that led to a ‘just right’ solution. Council Vice Chair Hill echoed this sentiment, expressing excitement about the public engagement and the opportunity to create a more delightful living.
