ChattAcademy has opened its doors as Hamilton County’s first bilingual public charter school which has a dual immersion program for both English and Spanish speakers. With its unique educational model, students can choose to complete their assignments in either language to foster an inclusive environment where communication barriers are broken down. Executive Director Nolan McDaniel explains that the goal is to celebrate multiculturalism and expose pupils to diverse cultures that will help them feel motivated rather than overwhelmed by the bilingual experience. With over 48% of students speaking Spanish at home, the school is dedicated to strengthening cultural pride and enhancing their language skills.
The bilingual program extends across various subjects such as math, social studies, and movement classes, with plans to gradually introduce more each year. By high school, they are expected to have fluency in both languages which will enable them to take academic courses in English or Spanish. Parents have shown overwhelming support for the school’s mission to preserve their children’s native dialect while exposing them to other cultures. This innovative approach not only supports language acquisition but also builds a strong sense of community among its pupils from different ethnic backgrounds.
For this academic school year 2024-2025, they are offering 50 seats in Grade 7 and 100 seats for Grade 6. Until they reach the full capacity of 100, they will be adding a new level every year up to Grade 12.
