The City of East Ridge is set to celebrate another milestone of its beloved community landmark – the Pioneer Frontier Park. This place has been a cherished space which embodies the spirit and dedication of its residents. The anniversary event will also feature a special ceremony on November 14 at 4PM with its highly anticipated opening of a time capsule placed at the park’s main entrance on Tombras Avenue.
Originally built from the bricks of the former City Hall, this structure holds memorabilia collected by the Pioneer Committee containing heartfelt letters to future generations. Former committee members, city officials and its residents, will attend this celebration to share memories and recognize their community-driven efforts.
Mayor Brian Williams, will kick off the festivity with stories of the park’s history followed by the unveiling of the time capsule by former committee member Debbie Colburn. Attendees are encouraged to explore the park after the program and reflect on its enduring legacy.
Throughout the years, Pioneer Playground has evolved from a grassroots project powered by passionate volunteers into a modern accessible area with its most recent upgrades including ADA-compliant play equipment, monkey bars and a splash pad, all completed in March 2022. From family picnics to children’s first adventures, this place will continue to be a heartwarming gathering spot that represents community pride.
