After months of planning and hands-on work from local students, the Chattanooga History Experience opened its doors last August at the corner of Broad and Third. It’s not your typical museum walk-through — think interactive exhibits, short films, and stories told by the very students who helped build them. The whole thing grew out of a partnership with Songbirds, pairing Hamilton County public school students with local professionals under Creative Director Isaiah Smallman, making the finished space carry a distinctly homegrown feel.
Step inside and you’ll pick up a few things you probably didn’t know about the area— like how the Tennessee River actually changed course to shape Chattanooga, or that there’s a dwelling nearby dating back to 1335 B.C. There’s local art older than the Egyptian pyramids, and yes, Scenic City holds the title of first reunion site for Union and Confederate soldiers. This pop-up is a test run. If it draws enough interest, it could grow into a full, permanent history museum. So if you’ve ever wanted more ways to know about the past, this is the moment to show up and vote with your visit.
