Joining the ranks of global green leaders like London and Adelaide, Chattanooga has officially been named North America’s first National Park City. This groundbreaking designation recognizes its ongoing commitment to becoming a healthier, greener, and more connected city. After a two-year grassroots campaign powered by residents, community leaders, nonprofits, and local businesses, the Scenic City achieved this international honor. The initiative promotes a “city in a park” vision which prioritizes access to nature, environmental education, sustainable practices, and cultural diversity. With key projects like the Chattanooga Tree and Montague Park revitalization already underway, this designation is not just a title—it’s a pledge for future generations.
To celebrate this milestone, everyone is invited on Saturday, April 19 from 12 PM -7 PM at the Chattanooga Green near Ross’s Landing. The event will feature local artists and a presentation by National Geographic Explorer and movement founder, Dr. Daniel Raven Ellison. Also, there will be a special coverage of over 50 Earth Week events dedicated to green living and environmental advocacy.
